Digital Collections in the Friedheim Library

About this collection

Louis Cheslock (1898-1981) was a composer, violinist, and writer on music who graduated from the Peabody Conservatory and was then appointed to the faculty, where he taught from 1922 until 1976. Cheslock also played violin in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra from 1916 to 1937, and was a member of H.L. Mencken's Saturday Night Club from 1928 to 1950.

Cheslock was an avid collector of music-themed stamps, which he compiled into seven volumes, digitized here. Many pages include Cheslock's personal annotations and musical incipits.
